Can you renew, or do you have to reapply?

As a Canadian citizen, you must have a valid Canadian passport to travel internationally and to enter the United States.

You may be eligible to renew your passport if your current Canadian passport meets all of the following conditions:

  • Your current passport was issued within the last 15 years
  • You do not need to change any personal information (name, date of birth, sex, or place of birth)
  • Your passport was initially issued with a 5-year or 10-year validity period
  • You were at least 16 years old at the time it was issued
  • Your passport has never been reported lost or stolen

If you do not meet these requirements, you will need to apply for a new adult passport instead.
